8 Quick Tips to Fix Laptop Camera not Working

1) Check If the Camera Is Turned On

If the camera is turned on, make sure the laptop is not in sleep or hibernate mode. If you’re using Windows 10, press Ctrl-Shift-Esc and then click Power Options.

If you’re using a Mac, open System Preferences and then click Energy Saver. If you can’t find these options, try restarting your computer. If the camera still doesn’t work, follow these next steps: Check the power cable: Make sure that the power cable isn’t loose or disconnected.

Try plugging another device into that outlet to see if there is power going through it (such as an iPhone).

Ensure the settings are right: Go into your system settings and check that Webcam is set to On. Unplug and re-plug: Make sure that everything is plugged in tightly before turning on your laptop again.

2) Check If the Camera Driver Is Up to Date

Start by checking your camera driver. The driver is the software that powers and operates the camera, so if your driver is out of date, then you might be experiencing all sorts of issues.

Updates are always free, so go ahead and update your drivers now. If that doesn’t work, try updating your Windows 10 version – sometimes updates can cause issues with drivers as well. Double-check the Device Manager: Check in your device manager to see if there are any devices with a yellow triangle or red X on them.

If this happens, restart your computer and unplug any devices that aren’t essential for the startup process (like external hard drives) to find out what’s causing the problem.

Try using a different camera: It could be as simple as trying another webcam or laptop camera from a different manufacturer!

Clear off space on your hard drive: Make sure there isn’t too much junk taking up space on your hard drive before attempting anything else – this can help resolve many different errors! Install an app like TechTool Pro (LINK) which will clear up tons of space for you!

3) Restart Your Laptop

To restart your laptop, turn off the laptop by pressing and holding the power button. Shut down the computer through Windows by clicking on Start and then selecting Shut Down.

If this does not work, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to completely shut down your device. Restart your laptop by turning it back on.

Sometimes a restart is enough for everything to be working again! So don’t worry; you haven’t lost your data or messed up anything too bad yet!

Reinstall the Drivers: The drivers are software that connects a hardware device such as a camera to your operating system. You can download new drivers from manufacturers’ websites or other third-party sites like Amazon or eBay.

Some people also prefer free driver finders like DriverAgent to help them locate what they need with just one click of a button.

Change Display Settings: Display settings tell your laptop how big things should appear on screen and which color mode should be used when displaying graphics.

4) Update Your Graphics Card Driver

If your camera isn’t working, the first thing you should do is update the graphics card driver. To do this, go to device manager and right click on your graphics card and choose Update Driver Software.

Next, make sure that you have an internet connection and then choose Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software.

This will not only update your graphics card driver but also install any other updates that need to be installed for Windows. When the process is complete, restart your computer.

5) Disable the Camera in the Device Manager

1. First, open up Device Manager by typing devmgmt.msc into the Windows Search bar and pressing Enter on your keyboard.

2. In Device Manager, find the entry for Camera and double-click on it to expand its options.

3. You should now see a screen that shows two or three tabs for different settings for the camera (depending on what kind of laptop you have).

4. If you only see one tab, then click on Action in the menu bar at the top of the screen and select Properties. If you see two or three tabs, select either Driver or Basic Settings, depending on what you want to change first.

5. Next, click on the Disable button and press OK to disable the camera. 6. After disabling the camera, close Device Manager and reboot your computer to make sure it is disabled properly.

7. If after rebooting you still cannot use your webcam because of an error message that pops up every time you try to access it then try uninstalling any applications related to cameras from Control Panel > Programs and Features > Uninstall a Program > Double-click on any programs with Camera in their name

6) Roll Back the Camera Driver

The first thing you want to do is roll back the driver. To do this, you need to click on the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen and open up Device Manager.

From there, find your camera driver under Imaging devices, right-click on it and select Roll Back Driver. Once you have done that, reboot your computer and see if it has any effect.

If this doesn’t work, try uninstalling the drivers for your camera and letting Windows reinstall them.

This can be done by going into Device Manager again, but this time go into Imaging Devices then right-clicking on your camera driver then selecting Uninstall. Then wait for Windows to reinstall the drivers with a fresh install.

7) Uninstall and Reinstall the Camera Driver

Uninstalling and reinstalling the camera driver is a quick way to fix your laptop camera if it is not working. To do this, follow these steps:

  1.  Shut down the laptop
  2. Restart in Safe Mode by pressing F8 on startup and selecting Safe Mode from the menu that pops up.
  3. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program and select the camera driver you want to uninstall (eg. Camera Driver).
  4. Click on uninstall, restart your computer and install a new driver for your camera.

8) Try a Different Webcam

If you can’t find a webcam, try downloading a different webcam app. If that doesn’t work, try restarting your computer and trying the webcam again.

If that still doesn’t work, try reinstalling the drivers for your webcam. If none of these steps work, then you might need to replace your laptop camera altogether. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions when installing the new one!
